An injured maid fled the home of former actress Princess Revilla yesterday morning to file a complaint after being subjected to abuse since November last year.
Roja (not her real name), 17, a native of Basi, Samar, said she couldn?t stand maltreatment under Princess Revilla (Rebecca Bautista Ocampo) of the well-known movie and political clan.
Investigation showed that the girl jumped from a 6-foot fence of Revilla?s house at A14 Casa Verde Lanuza corner C-5, Barangay Ugong, around 7 a.m. yesterday after she was badly beaten.
Barangay security staff rescued her and took her to Rizal Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
?Nabiyak ng konti ang ngala-ngala niya dahil sa pagkapasak daw ng walis tambo, hindi nga siya makakain dahil sa sobrang sakit ng lalamunan niya [Her jaw was slightly broken after a broomstick was jammed into her mouth; she couldn?t eat because her throat hurt],? said Robert Legaspi, of the barangay security, who recorded the victim?s complaint that would lead to criminal charges.
Roja said Revilla ignored her husband Dr. Gregorio Ocampo, who tried to stop her abusive behavior.
In an interview, she said her contract was for P2,500 monthly wage when she started in October 2007 but when she accidentally broke a wash basin stand in the comfort room a month later, Revilla started beating her up?tearing her hair, stuffing slippers in her mouth.
Starting November, her pay was reduced by P500.
?Kakaltasin daw po ?ung halaga ng nabasag ko [The cost of the damaged fixture would be deducted],? she told Standard Today.
Roja, who was able to reach first year college, said her salary was being used to buy medicine for her sick mother; she is the youngest in the brood of three.
Roja said she tried to escape last March 28 but a barangay staff, Christy Alino, was allegedly bribed to take her back to Revilla.
PO1 Amy Baldonado, of the Pasig City police women?s and children?s concern desk, said she was coordinating with the local social welfare office which had custody of the victim.
On Nov. 13, 1998, Revilla was acquitted in the P16-million suit filed by her maids?Precy Balolong and Rodelyn Lumactod?for physical injuries.
The damage and civil lawsuit was filed in Muntinlupa by the private prosecutors of the Commission on Human Rights.
