Finally PinoySource now is powered by Wordpress and Vbulletin this will help us to achieved our goal to become the ‘the next generation all filipino community”

What is vBulletin ?
vBulletin is a powerful community solution that makes it easy to add a forum messaging system to your web site. vBulletin is developed using PHP and MySQL (a highly efficient open-source database). This solid back end technology allowed us to develop a product that is both amazingly fast, yet reassuringly stable.

What is Wordpress
Wordpress is a blog publishing system written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database . WordPress is the official successor of b2\cafelog , developed by Michel Valdrighi . The name WordPress was suggested by Christine Selleck, a friend of lead developer Matt Mullenweg

We decide to change our forum software from phpbb3 to vbulletin
vBulletin is the software that, we feel, best suits the needs of the community for a host of reasons that I won’t bore anyone with. However, I will provide a brief summary of reasons why I personally feel we have opted to use vBulletin:

While vBulletin _is_ proprietary software , with the purchase of a license , we have full access to the entirety of the source code. This assuages any doubts about “the evils of proprietary software” coming into your home and kidnapping your dog or somesuch.

vBulletin has a long-standing reputation (which I can attest to) of not just being extremely secure (we’ve all seen spambots in our day), but staying very much on-top of patching new flaws as they are found.

vBulletin offers a wide set of features and abilities that other softwares do not offer that will not only make our job easier, but provide a better user-experience for everyone involved .

We also decided to use Wordpress as a Homepage or Portal because of following reason

  • Wordpress is great for SEO
  • Wordpress is a very nice, organized way to have a frontpage for vBulletin
  • There are thousands of plugins that help a wordpress blog to look more smarter always, easy to use and makes it more search engine friendly.
  • Reaching the world through pings - Hundreds of pinging services and blog directories with RSS accept all wordpress feeds and are pinged once and always when a post is published in the wordpress blog, and the pinging in their sites can be automated.
